For many years of its existence, network marketing has proven its effectiveness in providing people an opportunity to start a business with a small amount of capital, and learn various real-life lessons to become a successful entrepreneur.

And it is good to know that you are one of those who realized the importance and power behind multilevel marketing or network marketing.

Here are 15 tips to help you grow in this industry.

1. Select a good company

Few thing to consider when choosing a good company is the stability of the business, the qualities and experiences of the leaders who run the business  and the mission, vision and values of the company.

 Another thing to consider when selecting a multilevel marketing company is the length of year of the institution in the business, information the main office, the partners and its branches. Furthermore, does the the company supports the world market or only the national market?



2. Consider the quality & salability of the products

It is important to choose the product that you are proud of. The best type of products that your need to consider are consumables like food, drinks and cosmetics because you can surely earn from the repeat orders of your consumers.

The certifications, award and recognition—like FDA Registration, Halal Certification, Superbrand Award, Export Quality Seal— of the products is also important to consider. In additional to that, the testimonials or the users are also convincing tool to add into the list.

3. Choose a good compensation plan

Every company has different compensation plan but most of them have (1) member's discount, (2) referral bonus, (3) pairing bonus, (4) unilevel bonus, and other incentives like travel, house and car allowance and more.

 All you need to do is to know how much does the company give you on this different ways to earn as member of the network. There companies that give 25% discount for their members and there are also companies that give 33% and more.

4. Choose the good business system

Make sure that the system is owned by the company itself because there are network marketing companies who do dot have their own system (or computer program in other words)—they only share with the other companies.

Another thing is how your are paid. Is it through ATM, check or electronic money transfer or combination of these three? How your are notified about your earnings and how can you review it? Is the transaction can be done online, offline or via mobile phone?

5. Use the products or services

In the company where I belong, we are always taught to the product of our products because you can't expect that other people will believe on what you say about the product if you yourself is not using it. It is very logical.

It is also easy to share your experience about the product than to memorize the sales pitch that the marketing department prepared for you to use.

Remember that the most powerful tool in network marketing is the word-of-mouth, which all about your personal experience that you share with your friends.

6. Join seminars and training

Do not talk about the product or the business if you are not trained because you might say the wrong word to the right person.
  • It is not network marketing that will make you rich but your KNOWLEDGE about network marketing.
  • It is not the products will make your rich but your KNOWLEDGE about the products.
  • It is not the system that will make your rich but your KNOWLEDGE about the system.
Keep learning. Knowledge is your greatest asset that is more powerful than money and any tangible asset.

7. Devour your fear and be prepared for rejections


Your fear comes in different varieties and most harmful among them are the fear of failure and the fair of rejection.

Why? Because in network marketing, you will be facing failures and rejections – a lot of them.

8. Acquire and develop necessary skills

Learn how to set goals. Identify what you want to achieve in a certain period of time.Without goals you can never win the MLM. Make sure to set SMART (Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) conversion goals.

Learn how to invite, present, ask effective  questions, listen, sell, manage, delegate, advertise and more. Multilevel marketing can provide you an environment to acquire and practice necessary skills you needed to succeed. Grab that opportunity.

9. Acquire the right attitude

Your attitude is what makes you 100%. Network marketing is about dealing with people. It is more about the network and less about the product. Your attitude is expressed on how you deal with people and circumstances.

Bad attitude gets bad result. Good attitude gets good result. Right attitude gets right result. Which do you prefer? Some of the right attitudes in network marketing are:

  • Eagerness to study and learn more,
  • Accepting rejecting with a smile,
  • Risk-taking and safe keeping,
  • Enthusiasm and excitement on entrepreneurship,
  • Being creative, and
  • Perseverance and consistency.

10. Teach your downlines how to teach

Never leave your downlines untrained. Make sure that your downlines know how to duplicate the process. Teach your downlines how to teach their downlines.

Network marketing is not about how many people you have invited to join the presentation and buy a membership kit. It is all about how many individuals you have trained to do the business and become successful. When you downlines become successful, the success will boomerang to you.

11. Don't put other MLM companies down

One of the very important lesson I've learned from my upline is not to put other MLM companies down. Why? Because we are all in the same industry, Multilevel or Network Marketing Industry. 

When you put other MLM companies down, negative word-of-mouth will start to spread and you will be developing bad impression about Network Marketing before the eyes of people outside the industry. Then everyone in the industry, including you, will experience the domino effect.

12. Leverage the power of social media

Social media are very very effective tool for networking because they are really design for that purpose. Social media allow you to interact with the world in real-time. Here are the following popular free social media sites and their specialized purposes:

  • Facebook, Twitter and Goggle+: general purpose social networking
  • LinkedIn: Professional and business networking
  • Flickr and Pinterest: Photo and image sharing
  • SlideShare: Presentaion sharing
  • Scribd: Doccument sharing
  • YouTube and Vimeo: Video sharing
  • Vine and Instagram: Photo and video sharing mobile app
  • Blogger and Wordpress: Blogging
Using different different social media platforms and formats will increase your online visibility. Don't just limit yourself on using Facebook. When using social media, make sure to maintain professionalism–do not spam.

Sending too much private message containing copy-and-paste message will surely annoy your online friends.

13. Diversify your network

Connect with the teachers, media reporter, college students, house wife, drivers, vendors and any other groups of people.

Connect with the introvert, extrovert, creative, thinkers, innovators and many other. Most importantly, connect with the influential people. Influence the influential—the leaders.

14. Be honest, do not hype

Being excited and enthusiastic is different form being exaggerated. Do let other people distrust you because more often, people buy your products or join your network because they trust you.

Your personal story about what your are selling is very important in network marketing. Do not say that you have already earned millions from the business of you're only three months in the industry because for  sure, no one will believe you.

Do not show people a car and label it as MLM incentive if you actually bought the caught using your personal savings—not unless if that saving come from your network marketing business. You can share your dreams and how you can possibly achieve them by the help of your MLM business.

15. Be positive ALWAYS, never negative

This point is supposed to be under No. 9 – Acquire the right attitude, but I would like to emphasize this a very important tip in multi-level marketing because there are many people who will oppose you to reach your goals.

Facebook is one of the leading social websites that is used in almost all countries in the world.

Throughout the world, Facebook is blocked in only seven countries due to different reasons.

However, in all the countries it is used, there is less restrictions making it possible for people above 13 years to share and access information easily.

Facebook can be easily used as a business tool in; (a.) marketing,  (b.) communication between business partners, and (c.) performing online campaigns.

All this features are supported by the fact that Facebook for business enjoys a wide reach of clients, there is less regulation of information posted on Facebook and it supports a large variety of communication mediums.

Its ability to support various forms of communication medium such as; calls, pictures and establishment of tally based campaign makes it easy for businesses to use it according to their needs.

When using Facebook for marketing, the fast step involves forming either a fan page or business group.

A fun page is created and managed by the business representative. Content posted on the page are moderated by the business representative. Any Facebook member can enjoy receiving and posting information updates after liking the page.

Creation of fan page is well suited for businesses because of its ability to target customers and urge them to like the business page.

After creating the page the business representatives invites potential clients that might be interested in their business. 

After the invited people like the page, they are able to invite their friends too, making the number of targeted people increase quickly; a highly desirable feature in marketing.

Despite the existence of the normal way of Facebook fun page gaining attention of many people, there are two more methods which one can accelerate information reach.

  1. The first one is usage of a premium feature which allows payment of fees for a given quota of page likes. 
  2. The second is by keeping the page active through posting matters that affects the targeted group making it a hub sought by many.

There are two main advantages of using fun pages in marketing businesses. 


  1. The first one is that, information is widely spread across all the members using email notification and posting on their personal walls allowing their friends to view and like. 
  2. Secondly, members are free to actively; participate, contribute to discussions, comment on business products posted by the business representatives and evaluate the business products and services.


Facebook Group

Another way, in which businesses can use Facebook for business, is through creation of a Facebook groups. Groups allow sharing of information posted by group members and can be important in monitoring business trends. 

Every group member is free to post their views which establish market trends basing on the members discussions and establishment of online tallying campaigns.

Facebook runs on phones and computers making it a cheap way of communication especially when managing a large number of business partners or downlines. Information can be spread using messages, videos or live chats. 

The coverage is a fast and allows all the members to access the same information at the same time while incurring internet usage cost only that is cheaper compared to normal phone communication service charges.

If you are not very familiar about the backbone of network marketing a.k.a. Multilevel Marketing (MLM), you would think that it is an illegal pyramiding scheme like I thought.

 But, if a reputable author and rich man like Robert T. Kiyosaki will recommend network marketing as good way to build your asset, you will surely have your second thought and will be curious about what is in it that the author of the bestselling book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, is recommending.

Because of my interest to learn how to build an asset and enhance my financial intelligence, I bought a book Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing by Robert Kiyosaki last June 2013. It costs B$19.80 (about Php 670.00) and the content worth it.

On the chapter nineteen of the book, Kiyosaki recommends network marketing so much for every little money and risk, a person can build an asset in their spare time.
A young student from China gave a hand with my bag and said, "And that is why you recommend network marketing so much? For every little money and risk, a person can build an asset in their spare time." I nodded my head, "An asset that they can pass on to their kids when their kids want it. I don’t know of too many companies that will let you pass on your job to your kids. That is one test of an asset: You can hand it down to the people you love.
When I have read those paragraphs, I went back to the preceding pages and skimmed the content over because I thought I misinterpreted the context of the chapter, but it was not a misinterpretation. Kiyosaki really recommends network marketing.

After few weeks when I have finished reading the whole book, I went back to the book store and search for another material to enjoy.  I found another book that is authored by Robert Kiyosaki and it is about the business of the 21st century, which is also the title of the book.

I have no budget to buy a book that time so I just stood in front of the shelf and skimmed the book. Oh snap! Do you know what is the content of the book? Network marketing. Yes, it is what makes the business of the 21st century.

That book explains the revolutionary business of network marketing in context of what makes any business a success in any economic situation, and it justifies why it is an ideal avenue to make money.


Basics of Network Marketing

That triggered my interest to study further this kind of marketing. I did my research on the internet and hopped on some reputable website and went back again to that book store to buy The Business of the 21st Century worth B$21.80 (about Php 740.00). Below are what I've learned after few months of study.



1.) About sharing information and personal stories, and not about hard selling. It is important to understand that the best and time-tested form of promotion being used here is the word-of-mouth. Instead of paying the advertising agency and media, the company is giving you commission to spread information and create a buzz.

2.) It also about caring the success of those you bring into the business. You and other senior people in the your team need needs to work hand in hand to guide those people achieve both their personal goals and goals of the business.
Network marketing tends to develop the type of a leader who influences others by being a great teacher, teaching others to fulfill their life’s dreams and by teaching others to go for their dreams. ~Robert kiyosaki
3. ) It is a network of franchised individuals or personal franchise. Yes, it is a franchising, but instead of franchising a business like Jollibee or McDonald's, you are franchising an individual.

4.) The key to success in network marketing is what you can duplicate. It is just a matter of copy-and-paste legally, you will not be charge of plagiarism here. ^_^ You will be given the right to duplicate what successful people in the network do so that you will also be successful.

5.) The process is: 1st – connect with people and build good relationship, 2nd – invite them to experience the products you are excited about, 3rd – present the feature and benefits of the product and the business, 4th – follow up them about their decision, and 5th – train them to do their job by following this process after joining your network.

6.) Your job as network marketer is to have conversation, build relationship, explore possibilities, get to know people, and help them understand what this business is all about while you are developing your ability to have self-confidence, withstand rejection, communicate, be a great story teller, care about people, and other necessary business skills.


It is not an illegal pyramiding scheme

The easiest and fastest way to identify whether what you are joining is an illegal pyramiding scheme or legal networking is to see if there is any legitimate product or service being sold.  If there is no product or service being sold, that is surely illegal.

If the value of the product or service being sold is very small than the value that you have to pay, that might be illegal. In other words, when you join a networking group and you are only given a certificate of membership, no doubt  that you are in a wrong path.

Next to that are the proof of legality like business permit, accreditation and other documents that justify that the business is allowed to operate legally.


 

Things to Consider Before Joining a Networking Business

When selecting the right networking team to join into, the first question your are going to ask according to Kiyosaki is:
Is the company going to help me learn how to become a master network-builder?
Does it mean "recruiting" hundreds of people? NO. It is a the network-building that has been taught by career management professionals ever since.

In addition to that, there are few things that you’re going to consider – (1) the background stability of the company, (2) the quality and salability of the product, (3) the compensation plan, and (4) the business system. Four more question your are going to ask before joining a network marketing according to Kiyosaki are:

  1. Who is [or are] running the ship?
  2. Does the company offer a proven plan of action?
  3. Does the company embrace both business skills and personal development as a regular part of its educational and training programs?
  4. Does the company have a strong, high quality, and highly marketable product line that you can be passionate about?

1. The Background and Stability of the Company

According to the experienced network marketers, the experience and the background of the leaders of the company greatly affect the business itself.

Who is [or are] running the ship?

The leaders of the company are next important thing that you are going give great attention because how can you be trained to become a master network-builder if in the first place, the people who are running the business do not know what they do and where are they going.

Does the company embrace both business skills and personal development as a regular part of its educational and training programs?

The vision and mission is also another thing. Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad says, “If the mission is clear and strong, the business will wither the trials every business goes through during its first ten years. When a business gets big and it forgets its mission, or the mission it was crafted for is no longer needed, the business begins to die.”

Aside from that, other information you need to consider are the length of year of the company in the business, when it was started, address of the main and branch offices, the experience and background of the directors, and company's partners. After all, no one wants to invest in a company that will declare bankruptcy after a year.


2. The Business System

It is all about how the business is run. It includes the payment system, the network system, and delivery of information, action plan and more. System is the set of rules that govern the business. This is the blueprint that you are going to follow to be successful in the business.

Does the company offer a proven plan of action?

If those people who have joined ahead of you did not become successful and find difficulties to use the blueprint, then there is something wrong with the system.  They were not able to make a duplicable business system.

3. The Quality and Salability of the Products or Services

Of course, you need to consider the products you can be proud of. How can you sell your products if you yourself doubt their quality? Take note that networking marketing and direct selling go together. Networking marketing  is not only about recruiting people.

Does the company have a strong, high quality, and highly marketable product line that you can be passionate about?

During my research, I found out that good products are those consumables – products that consumer would use every day and they need to replenish it after using. Examples of consumable products are food, beverages, cosmetics and medicines. I also found out that the health and wellness is the fastest growing industry in the 21st century.

4. The Compensation Plan

The most common compensation plans when it comes to networking business are the retail discount, direct referral bonus, binary compensation, unilevel compensation, and stairsteps compensation, car and travel bonus, and company share.

The discount, bonuses and other types of compensation varies from company to company. One thing for sure is that the compensation is the same with corporate setting, there are companies that pay higher than the other.

Another thing that you are going to consider is when and how often you can receive that compensation. Is it daily, weekly, monthly or yearly?

My Few More Words

Network marketing is about team work, leadership and relationship plus desire. Compensation is just secondary. There are two important things in the business world. These are starting a business and making it flourish.

It is a dream for every entrepreneur to run a prospering enterprise, but this doesn't always happen. One the main reason that make very many good enterprises fail is the lack of business skills.

How to develop business skills is what each and every entrepreneur is concerned to know about.

The most prominent business men and women in the world have by years gradually developed their skills up to where they are now.

Business skills do not come naturally they are learnt. Some of the ways that young entrepreneurs can develop business skills are:

Start by developing a strategy and start moving towards your goal. The world is very dynamic every day unexpected change occurs and soon it comes to your attention that your strategy is failing. When it happens, you should adapt to the changes and come up new tactics of working.

Passion determines chances of your business success. Although too much passion can be harmful to your work especially when it doesn't move along with the reality. Hence, the skill is to match your passion with the current status of your business.

Effective communication is another important thing that one should work on developing. If you feel, you don’t communicate effective it is advisable to learn how to communicate in the most effective ways. You can achieve this by attending business forums and debates or by listening to other successive businessmen.

Maintain good working and healthy relationship. This is an essential ingredient for success in business. Identify the right people and establish relationships that are long lasting.

These business relationships not only help you in your working environment but also your personal life.


Be aggressive. You should be ready to take both risks. Make sacrifices when required. Always be confident with yourself what you focus on you should be ready to get to the bottom of it.

Be Persistent with your goals.Don't be the person who keeps on changing the goals every time a new challenge crops up.

Let your business move towards a certain focus when challenges come develop new ways of handling it without changing your vision

Do things differently by applying new techniques and tricks to your business. Always try as much as possible to make your business unique. It is not always a must we have completely new ideas, but we can modify the existing ones to suit us.

Always make sure you learn something every day. Learning never stops what you experienced yesterday is not what you will experience today.

If the business is growing bigger and thriving, it shouldn't keep you from learning. Apply the learnt techniques to better your business.

Be a good time manager. Always make sure that you set timelines to all the activities in your business.

Setting the timelines is always a simple thing but working to those timelines is not always an easy task. You should make sure that you meet the time deadlines and the time frames set in the business.
